Architect Matias Sagaria, with experience in both cities, created a colorful and unique composition in a loft in the Chinatown district of New York City.
The loft, spanning two levels in a historic building, features a mix of high design and local craftsmanship. The interiors needed to match the owners’ lifestyle of working in photography and art investment, resulting in a space that is warm, inviting, and reflective of their professional lives.
Sagaria selected pieces with assertive lines and vibrant colors for the living area, creating a space reminiscent of Memphis design. The lower level houses the kitchen, dining, and living areas, with furnishings and fixtures assembled like an abstract painting to embrace spatial openness and allow for easy rearrangement.
The upper-level office overlooks the ground-floor entry and features unique design elements like glass portholes and painted stripes. Custom furniture and millwork, including a desk and shelving, were designed by Sagaria to complete the immersive environment and tell the story of the cosmopolitan family.
